I set off on my journey to Northampton on Friday mid-morning. It’s a route I know well. The photography company I used to work for from the day I left school had their head office there and as I worked my way up in the company the management meetings would always be held here. However, on this occasion the journey took considerably longer than it used to – nearly 4 hours in total! It’s for precisely this reason that I like to travel the day before a wedding if the venue is more than an hour and a half away from me. That way I can ensure that on the big day I am focused only on the bride and groom and not on brake lights. I pride myself on my punctuality and preparation, two key qualities I believe are essential for a successful wedding photographer to have.
Having finally arrived, albeit a lot later than anticipated, I made my way to Delapre Park (#DelaprePark) as I had planned. Ben and April had chosen to have their formal photographs taken here and I wanted to do a reckie – preparation, preparation, preparation! It’s a beautiful location and I came away with some great creative ideas for the following day. I checked myself into a local B&B and found a nice pub nearby to have a quick drink. As I sat unassumingly sipping my pint in wandered April and her bridesmaids, ready to get into the wedding mood! As they ordered their drinks at the bar I politely left to allow the pre-wedding celebrations to begin whilst I got an early night!
